Carved City Scapes

As I try to learn how to finish a simple wood slab, and maybe cut an even slot into it, just looking at what true wood artists accomplish is so very much more impressive now.  Just look!

REMARKABLE WOOD-CARVED CITYSCAPES BY JAMES MCNABB

The City Series is an accumulation of wooden sculptures by artist James McNabb that resembles the cityscape of New York City. The Philadelphia-based artist utilizes a band saw to cleverly create his model metropolises, carving into individual scraps of wood and assembling them together to symbolize an eclectic mix of structures.  The positive message behind McNabb’s sculptures makes wooden sculptures even more appealing.
The City Series is a collection of wood sculptures that represent a woodworker’s journey from the suburbs to the city. Each piece depicts the outsider’s perspective of the urban landscape. Made entirely of scrap wood, this work is an interpretation of making something out of nothing. Each piece is cut intuitively on a band saw. The result is a collection of architectural forms, each distinctly different from the next.”
